An Example of the Benefits of Republican Government

By that I mean (lower-case "r") republican. I do not know, but I would suspect (I know now) that the majority of the people in the US would support the husband's point of view on this, considering how the MSM has played the issue. Maybe it's not the case, but what if it is?

Should this be a legitimate rationale for executing this woman? Or, as I believe, isn't this a prime example of why we need to hire representatives who can spend more time considering the background and evidence before forming laws that determine whether people in Mrs. Schiavo's condition can be killed?

There are legal decisions that require more than a mere majority to pass. Constitutional amendments are such a case. And were it not for the out-of-control judiciary, it would take exactly that to kill people in Mrs. Schiavo's condition. She would have to fall under an exception to the 14th Amendment, which states:

Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Clearly, Mrs. Schiavo is now somehow outside the protections of the Constitution as a citizen of the United States. This, of course, is bitterly ironic since the Federal judiciary has now granted those very rights to foreign terrorists held by our military outside the contiguous United States.

It occurred to me to suggest that perhaps the President could issue a pardon. So I looked up the provisions for presidential pardons in Article II, Section 2 of the US Constitution, which states:

Clause 1: The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

Unfortunately for Mrs. Schiavo, she's not committed any offenses against the United States. If she'd picked up an AK-47 and attacked our military forces, or bombed our embassies, or blew up a disco somewhere in Germany, she'd have far more legal protections than she does now as a victim of a random medical debilitation.

Now, being good Christians wanting people to live as vegetables indeinitely (I assume you're good Christians, you and Mike, the Wayne and Garth of the Wayne's World of right-wing blogs), isn't being dead a pretty good program? I mean, the after-life is all goodness and light, is it not? Why torture this poor woman whose cerebral cortex is GONE for another fifteen years when she can die just once and find eternal bliss? What is the point? I think it's sad that her parents are so sick and selfish. I think it is pathetic, especially after the republican talking points have been leaked, that the republican congress and their smirking president are trying to make political hay out of this. Should fate and irony play out properly, everyone who is peddling their false piety on this issue should live out the last fifteen years of their lives in a similar manner and be televised constantly. I know this situation first hand. Since my father had an aneurysm in Jan 1997. He was in a coma for 3 weeks, when he came out he could not use his legs, one arm or talk. He has been hospitalized ever since then. Mainly due to these problems and him not breathing when he sleeps. Now, I do have a couple of problems with what is going on in Florida. The question of her not being feed, I have the DNR and no extraorodinary measures spelled out in advance. She did not. So, who has the right to terminate? The parents who knew and raised her for 20+ years or the Husband of less than 5? The real question is here is HOPE. After 5 years, the husband lost his and then remembered that they had talked about this issue previously. I, for one, believe him. Not knowing their personal history, I have to take him at his word. So given the limited information available I would have to say. "IF" there is no hope, it is better to let her pass. Now, JB as for the Republican's, they are in a "NO WIN" situation. The press is the one driving their actions. Answer A: "do nothing"
Press paints Republicans as "cold hearted and cruel", with a Kevorkian reference thrown in for good measure.

Press paints Republican's as "overbearing dictators" interfering with people's private lives. This time add Nazi reference. Which is the one you have chosen.
 
The Republicans are the one with the leaked "talking ponts" where they plan to bludgeon Democrats with this. DUH!!! 'Draw your own conclusions, dimbulb. You NEVER have a problem at least openly with these people. Now, What Nazi reference are you talking about? And, these people (Republican congressional types)are the ones who got this whole controversy going. Bill Frist can apparently diagnose all maladies via video. Sorry about your Dad, dude, but I wouldn't wish this on anyone. And whether you are "good christians or not, you and this Mikey character are still the Wayne and Garth of right-wing blogs. Now, the press is driving the republicans' actions. Excuse me? The press is driving the actions of a bunch of hypocrites with a list of talking points actions? WTF? They meant to make hay with this and it backfired. That's what happens to ethically challenged people vying for the spotlight. Now, what words did I supposedly put in your mouth? As for the NAZI reference, obviously you have not been listening to NPR or reading any Op-Ed pieces in the Seattle area newspapers.
 
I still didn't put words in your mouth as I did say "assuming". There was a reason for that caveat. And yet you seem to be accusing me of things written in local opinion pages or NPR. WTF? The only thing wrong with my post was confusing you for Ken and typing at lightning speed thus managing to omit the "f" in "indefinitely". (JB)

Doublespeak must be a way of live for you. You made the statement about "good christians" and "assumed" Ken and I were such. So yes, you put words in mine and every "good christians" mouth. Now you are trying to get out of what you wrote. That makes you a hypocrite. I wrote that no matter what the Republicains did they would be critized. You support the second take of my comments , whether you want to admit it or not is your chioce.

You continue to make derogatory remarks about me and others with no basis or proof. You refuse to cite sources for your "facts". You do not admit when you are caught putting out false information. If you do not like being challenged on you assertions, do not make them. I do not have to prove to you that I am not an idiot, you would not believe it anyway.
